Ten Australian universities embrace Chargebar

Service provider Chargebar is now the number one supplier of phone charging stations in universities, with ten Australian institutions adopting the unique service for their students.

The small, wall-mountable units, commonly referred to as ‘chargebars’, have eight charging cables that allow students to recharge their mobile phone or tablet device for free.

The innovative service is particularly suited to universities and educational institutions due to a student’s high dependence on smartphone and/or tablet for their learning experience.

“I constantly use my phone at uni to research for assignments, access my timetable and search for information” said UNSW student Jenny Drummond, adding “it’s really stressful when your phone is low on battery and you don’t have your charger with you.”

High profile institutions such as the University of Newcastle, UNSW and University of Western Sydney have recognised this need, installing multiple charging points across their campuses.

Susannah Lynch, Manager of Marketing and Sponsorship at the University of Newcastle has received rave reviews about their installations across four of their campuses.

“We think it’s fantastic and our students love the fact that the service is both fast and free” said Ms Lynch.

Chargebar Managing Director Jonathon Tanner said universities are realising that free charging services are as important as free wifi and essential in keeping their students productive and happy while on campus.

“At this rate, we will have charging stations installed in over half of all Australian universities by the start of first semester 2013” said Mr Tanner.

This trend follows a pattern in the US market where 70 percent of all universities and educational institutions have already installed charging stations at their campuses.

About Chargebar

A ‘chargebar’ is a station where people can recharge their mobile phone or tablet battery for free. They are permanently installed in out-of-home locations or hired for events such as festivals and conferences. Each chargebar has 8 to 12 cables catering for 97% of devices on the market and supplying a lightning fast charge. Chargebars are the next generation of customer service, but also serve as a highly effective tool to drive foot traffic and communicate a brand’s message to a captive audience.
